The election of an interim Chairperson for the new Nyadri District in West Nile has flopped today for lack of quorum.

The Returning Officer, Richard Onoba, says only eight out of the 21 councillors from Maracha and Terego turned up for the polls.

All Councillors from Terego County boycotted the polls, protesting the location of the headquarters at Nyadri in Maracha County as opposed to Kubala, in Terego.

The electoral commission chairperson, Badru Kiggundu, last week said the election was aimed at creating an interim government and administrative structures which would help in the delivery of services to the people.

Kiggundu explained that the interim Chairperson shall serve for a maximum period of six months, after which election by universal suffrage shall take place.
